Hi, Dear Reader!

We are Broton BP — a block producer on the Proton blockchain. And here, we keep our journal where we will tell you about our progress and plans, success, and difficulties on our block producer’s path. We aim to be open and transparent to the people who vote for us. And, of course, we will continue to promote Proton in all possible ways.

There is a difference between knowing the path & walking the path. — Morpheus.

Our backstory

Why Proton? ⚛️

Since last spring, I have watched after Proton and invested some money in it. It seemed a very perspective project, and here are some points why:

  • Proton is a separate blockchain like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc. So it is not just a project but a whole ecosystem for building dApps, and potentially it can be massive.
  • It is swift — more than 4,000 honest transactions per second, and it is not the limit. For example, Ethereum can do 15 transactions per second. Solana states 65,000 TPS, but according to SolanaFM, more than 90% of all transactions are so-called “vote” and other “system” transactions, which are not initiated by real users.
  • Proton has no gas fees — all transactions are free for end-users. Proton uses the DPoS (Delegated Proof of Stake) consensus model based on EOSIO technology (not an EOS fork!), which uses the “resources” concept. But Proton's approach is different from most EOSIO networks — in Proton, developers must buy resources for their applications. So, all transactions are free for end-users.
  • Proton implements a mechanism of signature requests that allows applications to push authentication requests straight to a client wallet — this makes crypto payments easy as ever before.
  • Proton has a solid professional team with a strong background and operates under US-based company Metallicus Inc., the developer of Metal Pay product. Metal Pay was founded in 2017, and its native token, $MTL, is traded on the most popular exchanges, including Binance.
  • Proton accents future regulation of crypto as the team understands that it is inevitable, so Proton will be doing well when this happens. Proton developed the unique KYC/KYB on-chain verification system, which allows storing a user verification status directly in the blockchain. Strategic partners provide a verification mechanism and keep all the sensitive data secured and safe. Just imagine — once you pass the KYC, you can interact with any apps running on the blockchain with no need to verify again. This is great!
  • A year ago, Proton already had its mobile wallet for iOS and Android, and it was the most convenient crypto wallet I’ve ever used. And recently, it was completely re-written and re-branded and now is called WebAuth.com wallet because it is not just a crypto wallet but a standard for easy and secure authorization on any resources — you can read more about it here.
  • Proton is actively developing the ecosystem around its blockchain: NFT marketplace, DeFi applications like Proton Swap (DEX, Yield Farms), and recently released lending platform — Proton Loan, with more than 25M$ of value locked in just two months after the launch!

In general, the primary mission of Proton is to make crypto accessible to everyone, so people would start using it in everyday life. It is free, fast, secure, and easy to use. What else can you dream about? 😍

I hope these key points are enough to start loving Proton because I can continue talking about it infinitely… :)

About us 🤙

BROTON BP is a small team of IT professionals with a vast experience in product development, marketing, and server administration. We worked in large companies and participated in startups as well. We have been involved in crypto since 2017 and believe that blockchain is the main thing happened with humanity for the last decade.

My name is Roman, and I’m the founder of BROTON BP. As I said before, I’ve been hanging around Proton for the last year, and to be honest, it is the first crypto project and crypto community I’ve dived into so deep. Unlike many other crypto projects which are making too much noise around but have no applicable working product, Proton is the opposite — they make cool stuff and not trying to make hype on it. That’s why I like it.

My experience tells me that the best investment strategy is to focus on something you believe in and keep patience. When you are chasing pumping coins, you get a lot of hustle and minimum gains. So, this time I chose to trust my intuition.

In November 2021, I realized that I didn't want to be just a passive viewer as I felt that I could do more for the Proton community's growth. That’s how I decided to become a block producer. 💡

First of all, I realized that I needed a cool name. It didn't take too long —I came up with “BROTON BP”. What is “Broton”? If you read Proton chats, you might already know it; if not — there is a simple answer for you: “Bro” + “Proton” = “Broton”. This word was born in the community and many people, including myself, use it in conversations. In my interpretation, it symbolizes solidarity and unity of the Proton community people — we all rallied around the project. Also, this word emphasizes the friendly atmosphere that reigns in the community.

In the next step, I had to gather a team. I needed a specialist in server administration, as it is not my strongest side and a designer who would help create a logo and branding. Thanks to many years of working in IT, I have contacts with professionals in various fields. So, our small team was ready, and we could move on!

Next time we will tell you about the technical and organizational details of launching a block producer on Proton.
